A Circular History

Video Installation & Performance | 2013

"A Circular History" draws inspiration from the concept of eternal return and Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophical perspective on history. This piece contemplates the nature of time and history, proposing that they do not progress linearly but rather cycle back repeatedly to a familiar juncture, with only slight shifts in individual positions—a concept akin to a continuously revolving yet ever-altering record of events. With the advent of media and the accessibility of digital photo manipulation, it has become increasingly feasible to construct and historicize fictional narratives from the past. This work delves into the notion that truth can only be grasped by navigating through these cyclical patterns of history, suggesting that to understand reality, one must engage with its endless loops.
