PainScape

Video Installation | 2015

"PainScape" immerses its audience in a stark tableau of distress, where the artist is depicted enduring a dental procedure. Accompanying this visual is an intense auditory element: a high-fidelity recording of a dental drill, a sound that might overwhelm some spectators, fostering a profound engagement with the sensation of pain. Central to the installation is a CRT security monitor, linked to three analog cameras positioned throughout the gallery. This setup captures and sporadically presents live footage of the viewers from various perspectives, shown on the monitor. This interplay of images transitions the role of the audience from passive observers to active participants, deepening their connection with the artwork's exploration of discomfort.
