An Encounter With Things

Installation | 2018

"An Encounter With Things" is part of the "Strata of Memory" project series and manifests as a sound installation where the affective nature of distorted signals seeks to conjure an illusion of information loss during audience communication. The piece features a looped recording of the artist's voice delivering the line, "I hope that what I've said hasn't hurt you too much." This loop is played back through headphones in both pristine digital form and in analog form, where it undergoes a deliberate degradation over the exhibition's duration. Audiences are immersed in the juxtaposition of clarity and decay, hearing the statement repeat in an endless cycle that bridges the gap between digital permanence and analog ephemerality.
