WISTFUL AFFECTION FOR THE PAST
In this video I have tried to deliberate about our historical background and how our perception of it is shaped. Through this investigation I was interested in the question of how we define our historical memories with images and sounds. I have used my experiences both in music and visual poetry to reach a nostalgic feeling regarding the history.
Writing is an important achievement of humankind, because it produces and expresses a “historical world”. According to the revolution of technical images, linguistic communication, both spoken and written words are no longer capable of transmitting thoughts and concepts (Vilem Flusser, 1983). Our eyes try to decipher a text following its lines, and thus establishes the uni-vocal relation of a chain of elements by which the text has composed. In this regard our perceptions of the world will be linear and shape our “history” or “historical memory”. In this project, I tried to challenge the linear way of thinking in a very symbolic way, which is possible with the use of the software. The text in this work explains the sound with the combination of some familiar footage which is not related necessarily to the text and sounds. There is no relation between elements. In other words, they do not try to connect other parts for the specific meaning. Through the investigation on our historical background, I was interested in the question of how we define our memories with images and sounds. I have used my experiences both in music and visual poetry to reach a nostalgic feeling regarding the history.
I believe yearning for the past and desire for the future are inseparable properties of human mind. I tried to provoke my viewers to rethink about their oral history concerning their life and urge them to have new vision about moments even in the future.
